EElizabeth’s
English 111 Blog #3
By: Elizabeth Crotts
Interests, Advice, and Trends
are the topics that largely form blog posts. I have few to no interests. No
one is going to take advice from a teenager behind a computer. As well as the
last known trend I was aware of was light-up, bedazzled sketchers, and Disney’s
cartoon Cinderella. It’s safe to say that trend died at least a decade ago. For
anyone who’s asking, yes, I did partake in those girly 2010s trends.
I went so far into this
obsession that I had a Cinderella-themed birthday party when I was five. I
dressed up like Cinderella and made my parents and siblings dress up too. The
party was catered by my grandmother’s business. My wonderful grandmother made
me a giant castle-shaped cake with Disney princess figurines posed on it. It
was the best birthday party I have ever had!
I have not participated in many trends
since this one was circulating in my private school hall. Trends have changed so
much from those days. Everything is way more complicated now. Social Media has invaded
my generation like a plague. Most people’s prized possession is their cell
phone, and it’s viewed as their only connection to the world. The worst part
about trends is they are forever changing; nothing is consistent anymore. It
doesn’t matter how much time, money, and energy you use to maintain a “current”
image, because it will all be meaningless tomorrow. Who is going to ever care
about whether you met today's standard of beauty, success, and happiness? It will all disappear into the algorithm of industries
and agencies’ cycle of importance. This blog post isn’t intended to berate any
user of social media. Its purpose is to be a refreshing reminder that life isn’t
all in our phones but, in the people and things we let influence us.
